Then, there was the AFC Championship in freezing-ass Cincinnati on the coldest day since the ice age, followed
by the Super Bowl XXIX, where we just so happened to play the greatest team that ever stepped on a football
field. Marty Ball was intense, but we ended up on the losing end because he played for field goals. And then
last year, we lost our three best players to injury during the playoffs, and still managed to make it interesting.
Which brings us to this season…AKA 2nd Half Miracles.

So I’m looking at the standings and I see that Tennessee is 4-0 for the
first time, and Buffalo is 4-0 as well. This makes me wonder if the
Chargers are cursed. I mean, first we had the Holy Roller, then came the
fire sale of John Jefferson and Fred Dean, which nearly killed Air Coryell.

Had two plays gone differently in their first two games, the San
Diego Chargers might be undefeated and alone atop the AFC
West.
Instead, they need a victory over the team led by the most prolific
passer in NFL history to avoid falling to 0-3.
After being on the wrong end of an officiating blunder that cost
them a win, the Chargers will try to bounce back Monday night
when they host Brett Favre and the New York Jets.

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Philip Rivers, LaDainian Tomlinson and the
rest of the San Diego Chargers simply left no doubt.
Frustrated by two gut-wrenching losses, the Chargers raced past
nemesis Brett Favre and the New York Jets for a 48-29 victory
Monday night in a wild game befitting two original AFL teams.
"It didn't matter how any of us felt. We were going to do what we
had to do to win this game," Tomlinson said. "We needed this
bad. If we lost this game, we go 0-3 and I don't know what's going
to happen. For us to get that first win, there is a sigh of relief."

Rivers tied his career-high with three touchdown passes, Tomlinson scored his first two TDs of the season and
San Diego finally got back at Favre after all these years. They sacked him three times and intercepted him twice,
including a 52-yard return for a score by All-Pro cornerback Antonio Cromartie.
Favre always seemed to come up big on Monday nights with Green Bay. This night, though, he finally lost to the
Chargers after beating them five straight times dating to 1993.
San Diego (1-2) looked like the team picked by many to reach
the Super Bowl. The Chargers lost their opener to Carolina on
the last play, then lost by one point at Denver in a game
remembered for referee Ed Hochuli's blown call that set up the
Broncos' winning score.
"It's good to win a game," Rivers said. "We needed to win a
game. I think you saw what this team can do and the big plays
we can make."

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP)—For three quarters, the Oakland Raiders
stopped LaDainian Tomlinson and appeared poised to stop a
long losing streak to the San Diego Chargers.
Then Tomlinson got loose, the Chargers pressured JaMarcus
Russell and the longest winning streak any team has held
against the Raiders grew to 10 games.
Darren Sproles’ long kickoff return set up Nate Kaeding’s go-
ahead 47-yard field goal with 1:51 to play and Tomlinson
sealed the 28-18 victory Sunday with his second fourth-quarter touchdown that gave him yet another 100-yard
game.
“Every year is different. They’re a better team,” said Tomlinson, who had 75 of his 106 yards in the fourth quarter.
“We pride ourselves on now matter how we start, finishing the game strong. It didn’t matter that it was against
the Raiders.”

SAN DIEGO (AP)—Inside linebacker Stephen Cooper walked
into the San Diego Chargers’ locker room on Monday carrying
three cases of flavored bottled water.
After serving a four-game, NFL-imposed suspension for
testing positive for a banned stimulant, Cooper vowed never to
use supplements again and to stick with water to fortify his
body.
“Honestly, I’m not touching nothing,” said Cooper, who took
responsibility for making a mistake. “Supplements are out the
door.”

As far as running backs go, San Diego Chargers
star LaDainian Tomlinson has been one of the
best passers since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970.
But the Miami Dolphins have proven that Ronnie
Brown gives them some options from the
backfield as well.
With Tomlinson appearing healthier, the Chargers on Sunday will look to snap a six-game losing streak against an
upstart Dolphins team that used Brown and some unorthodox offensive formations to earn their biggest win in
recent years.
