SAN DIEGO (TICKER) —The San Diego Chargers on Monday
signed tight end Kris Wilson and offensive lineman Kynan
Forney.
In 49 career games with the Kansas City Chiefs, Wilson
caught 42 passes for 345 yards and four touchdowns.
The Chargers were in need of depth at tight end after Scott Chandler suffered a season-ending toe injury Friday
night in San Francisco. Forney, an eight-year veteran, has started 88 of 95 games played during his career with
the Atlanta Falcons. Most of his action has come at guard, where he was named a first alternate to the Pro Bowl
in 2005.
To make room on the roster for the two veterans, the Chargers released fullback Andrew Pinnock and placed
center Cory Withrow on injured reserve.

out of the way, it’s time for LaDainian Tomlinson to get back to
work.
More than seven months after limping off the field during the
AFC championship game, Tomlinson will return to action when
his San Diego Chargers host the Carolina Panthers on

So, at this weekends tailgate we'll be engaging in Barbaqueapalooza. There is only one rule. Everything that goes
on the grill must have a bbq sauce applied to it during the cooking process. Bring some for yourself and some to
share.
Apparently pork is the bbq meat of choice in North Carolina . It isn’t required to Q pork but I thought I’d let you know.
Remember gates open at 9:00 am. See you at D3.

When the San Diego Chargers are healthy, they could be
the most talented team in the NFL.
They weren't healthy in last season's playoffs and lost to
New England in the AFC Championship Game.
Star linebacker Shawne Merriman is taking a risk trying to
play on a bad knee, but the outlook on offense is much
brighter.
If quarterback Philip Rivers, running back LaDainian Tomlinson and tight end Antonio Gates all are 100 percent,
coupled with a full season from wide receiver Chris Chambers and increased contributions from running back
Darren Sproles and wide receiver Vincent Jackson, San Diego would be tough to stop. There is a huge drop in
talent for the other teams in the AFC West. The Denver Broncos have a slim chance to finish .500 but the
Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs have no shot.

Over the course of several years, the San Diego Chargers
developed a reputation as a team that couldn't carry its regular
season success into the playoffs.
Though the Chargers may have shed themselves of that
reputation with two postseason victories last season, the
injuries that played a considerable role in ending their playoff
run could be just as haunting in 2008.

SAN DIEGO -- Eric Weddle calls himself a "short-lived" type of
guy. He had better hope his San Diego Chargers' Super Bowl
aspirations don't fit the same description.
The second-year safety expects to be haunted by one image
he witnessed up close and personal in Qualcomm Stadium
Sunday: Carolina Panthers tight end Dante Rosario catching a
14-yard touchdown pass from Jake Delhomme on the final
play of the Panthers' shocking 26-24 victory.
Weddle was in the vicinity of the play. But he has to let the
memory of the play go.
"It can't stick," Weddle said. "I'm a short-lived type of guy"

Ted Cottrell had mentioned a “mystery defense” of some sort, but that turned out to be the good old-fashioned 4-
3. He did however, have some strange combinations up front, which led to some long overdue QB pressure.
On the downside, we still played zone, and that’s why Favre looked like he could complete anything. Oh yeah,
and the reason he was successful is because he went after my favorite player. Yep, you guessed it, Weddle.

The last time San Diego and Denver met, Chargers
quarterback Philip Rivers bothered the Broncos with more than
just his play on the field.
These teams will face off for the first time Sunday since a
chippy game between the AFC West rivals last Christmas Eve.
In what appeared to be a meaningless game with the
Chargers on their way to clinching the No. 3 AFC playoff seed
and the Broncos moving closer to their first sub-.500 season
since 1999, San Diego won 23-3 at home in a heated contest
on Dec. 24.

Mike Shanahan went for the 2-point conversion with 29
seconds left and Jay Cutler hit rookie Eddie Royal over the
middle to give the Denver Broncos a 39-38 win over the
stunned San Diego Chargers on Sunday.
The Chargers (0-2) couldn’t believe they lost in the final
seconds for the second straight week.
Trailing 38-31, the Broncos (2-0) reached the 1 but on third-
and-goal, Cutler reared back to throw and the ball slipped out
of his hands, bounced off the grass and into linebacker Tim
Dobbins’ hands.

NEW YORK -- Ed Hochuli's acknowledgement that he erred on a call late
in Sunday's San Diego Chargers-Denver Broncos game will mean lower
grades for one of the NFL's highest-profile referees.
"Officials are held accountable for their calls. They are graded on every
play of every game," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Monday. "Ed has
been an outstanding official for many years, but he will be marked down
for this call. Under our evaluation system, an official's grades impact his
status for potentially working the playoffs and ultimately whether or not he
is retained."
The play occurred with the Broncos at the Chargers' 1-yard line in the final
minute. Denver quarterback Jay Cutler dropped back to pass, and the ball
slipped out of his hands, bounced off the grass and into the arms of San
Diego linebacker Tim Dobbins.

The surgery went well and there was no further damage to
Merriman’s knee, according to a person with knowledge of the
situation, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Philip Rivers, LaDainian Tomlinson and the
rest of the San Diego Chargers simply left no doubt.
Frustrated by two gut-wrenching losses, the Chargers raced past
nemesis Brett Favre and the New York Jets for a 48-29 victory
Monday night in a wild game befitting two original AFL teams.
"It didn't matter how any of us felt. We were going to do what we
had to do to win this game," Tomlinson said. "We needed this
bad. If we lost this game, we go 0-3 and I don't know what's going
to happen. For us to get that first win, there is a sigh of relief."

Rivers tied his career-high with three touchdown passes, Tomlinson scored his first two TDs of the season and
San Diego finally got back at Favre after all these years. They sacked him three times and intercepted him twice,
including a 52-yard return for a score by All-Pro cornerback Antonio Cromartie.
Favre always seemed to come up big on Monday nights with Green Bay. This night, though, he finally lost to the
Chargers after beating them five straight times dating to 1993.
San Diego (1-2) looked like the team picked by many to reach
the Super Bowl. The Chargers lost their opener to Carolina on
the last play, then lost by one point at Denver in a game
remembered for referee Ed Hochuli's blown call that set up the
game. I think you saw what this team can do and the big plays

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP)—For three quarters, the Oakland Raiders
stopped LaDainian Tomlinson and appeared poised to stop a
long losing streak to the San Diego Chargers.
Then Tomlinson got loose, the Chargers pressured JaMarcus
Russell and the longest winning streak any team has held
against the Raiders grew to 10 games.
Darren Sproles’ long kickoff return set up Nate Kaeding’s go-
ahead 47-yard field goal with 1:51 to play and Tomlinson
sealed the 28-18 victory Sunday with his second fourth-quarter touchdown that gave him yet another 100-yard
game.
“Every year is different. They’re a better team,” said Tomlinson, who had 75 of his 106 yards in the fourth quarter.
“We pride ourselves on now matter how we start, finishing the game strong. It didn’t matter that it was against
the Raiders.”
